33.5 weeks

Your baby kind of looks like she's coated in a layer of cream cheese these days. The thick, white substance that protects her skin from pruning in the amniotic fluid is called vernix. When she's born you'll probably see some vernix lingering in her "hard-to-reach" places like under her arms, behind her ears and around her va-jay-jay, if she's a she.. Other news from the womb this week:

The soft fur, lanugo, that covered your baby's body for much of her stay in the womb is now almost completely gone. Your baby begins to develop her own immune system, instead of relying solely on antibodies received through the placenta. This will come in handy when some grubby relative manhandles the baby without washing his hands first.

This week, your baby measures about 17¾ inches, as almost as long as an American Girl Doll (!) and weighs almost 5 pounds, as heavy as a bag of sugar, minus the cup you put in your decaf this morning.

My long weekend.

Let's see where to start. I guess this all did not really start this weekend it started on Thursday. Thursday night I was getting out of the bath tub and I had a contraction. Not a fall on the floor scream in pain contraction but it was a contraction none the less. No big deal right? I am 31 weeks, a contraction here and there is not a big surprise.
Friday I had my OB appt and I told the US tech about the contraction and the fact I thought I might have been leaking amniotic fluid. She said everything looked fine and baby looked great. I went for my appt and my Dr had gotten called out for a delivery. I was NOT happy. All these things I wanted to talk to him about and he was not there. OK I over reacted I am sure but they sent some wanna be 12 year old in to see me who if she was any perkier I would have had to smack her. She was chewing bubble gum! What kind of Dr chews bubble gum and CRACKS IT???? OMG I was irritated. I could not think right so nothing I wanted to ask ever got asked, and after she was gone I felt like an ass.... an irritated one at that.
Friday night was pretty much normal. I had a few more contractions but there were never more then 4 in an hour so I know not to worry about that. Dr S said more then 4 a hour I am to call. I got some cleaning done and never got any sleep I was so full of energy. WAIT I am full of energy AND contracting? This moght not be a good thing. I got the WHOLE house clean! You name it clothes, dishes, swept, everything it was done. The only thing I did not get to was the bathroom because mom was in there taking her bath LOL.
Saterday morning still having contractions, they were getting a little more intense but not any closer. Jen and I were watching a movie and I started to realize they were like 10 mins apart. Jen said to call the Dr, I took mom to get her hair done and called while I was out. Do not know what I was thinking it was Sat and all the message says is go to L&D (Labor and Delivery) to be evealuated and they will get a hold of the Dr on call. I went home took a shower because I felt nasty from all the cleaning I had done, and away we went.
We get there and all the normal stuff. Hook me up, watch contractions, drink fluids, urine tests and a tape test, and cervix test. Not dialated, not leaking fluids, so pretty much ok there. But deffinatly contracting. They decided to give be Breathine (sp) SHOCKER there LOL. Two shots later, contractions getting worse and closer together. NOT GOOD. So they decided to give me Nubain. WHY ON EARTH they gave me that I have no idea. And believe me I am going to ask that later today when I go in to the Doc. I have been worried about that since I got home. Eight hours, three breathine treatments and 1 nubaine treatment later, I was sent home. Still having contractions, but they were not as bad. Well NO CRAP I AM ON NUBAIN I AM NOT GONNA FEEL THEM!!! I have breathine pills for the remainder of the weekend.
Sunday I finally slept, and well because I was in no pain. Still having contractions everywhere from 7 to 4 mins apart. VAN wont start! I can not take much more BS that is for sure. So this morning (Monday) I have to call and get in to see the Dr and then I can see where we are. I am about sick of all of it. Not the baby just the being preggo part LOL. A year is to long to be preggo and I am just ready to be done, Can I sleep till March??? Please??

LTNS

It was brought to my attention that I have not updated this page in almost two months and so here I am. Let's see where are we?

30 Weeks, I am seeing the doctor twice a week now for biophysical profiles, I have taken steroid shots to help her lungs develop, and things are going very well (it scares me to say that but they are right now knock on wood). Right now we are in a holding pattern. We want and need her to stay in and just grow, so we just sit back and do everything we are told to do.
I am so tired anymore it is not even funny. Stupid things make me tired. Getting the snale male makes me tired. I am swollen and tired and at the same time I am full of energy to try and get things ready. Jen thinks I am nesting and she seems to think it is really cute @@ Whatever! It is driving me batty!
When I have something new to share I will be back. Thanks everyone for reading
Blessed Be

How your baby's growing:

Your baby's about 15.7 inches long now, and she weighs almost 3 pounds (like a head of cabbage). A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds her, but that volume will decrease as she gets bigger and takes up more room in your uterus. Her eyesight continues to develop, though it's not very keen; even after she's born, she'll keep her eyes closed for a good part of the day. When she does open them, she'll respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision — which means she can only make out objects a few inches from her face. (Normal adult vision is 20/20.)

See what your baby looks like this week.

24 weeks!!!!

Pregnancy Week 24
An X ray reveals a greatly strengthened skeletal system. The baby begins to move more and more.
Your Baby

Your baby is about 12 inches long and weighs a little over a pound. She has developed the sweet face you'll soon see, with eyes and ears placed just where they should be. She's big enough that she can no longer do cartwheels and tumbles, but she's just as touchy-feely with her surroundings as she has been. She's also even more attuned into sounds outside the womb. If a loud noise disturbs her, she may be restless for hours.

Your Body
Faint red marks may begin to stretch across your abdomen now that your uterus has risen to two inches above your belly button. They may also show up on your hips and breasts. While there's not much you can do to stop stretch marks from appearing, know that soon after delivery they'll likely fade to nearly invisible silvery or white streaks. And if they don't, consider them a loving reminder of your nine-month adventure.

Fetal development in pregnancy week 18:

fetus in fifth month We have two more ounces! Your "getting bigger-n-better by the minute baby" is already up to 7 ounces and 6 inches! This is a big week for their baby skin. There are now two distinct layers—the epidermis (or the surface skin) and dermis. Currently, their skin is covered with a greasy, waxy, cheese-like substance, known as vernix caseosa. Sure, it sounds pretty nasty, but this mixture of fatty secretions covering your little swimmer from head to toe is the best way to protect their oh-so-thin skin from bruising and abrasions as well as chapping caused by amniotic fluid exposure (and your little one is swimming in that stuff!). Still don’t like the fact your little darling is currently slathered in fatty cream like a greased pig? Well, you know the birthing process? Where you have to push something the size of a watermelon out a hole the size of a grape? That adorable little greased piglet would have a lot harder time getting through the birth canal without the vernix caseosa. Fun fact for momma’s with baby girls: it’s a uterus within a uterus! Your little girl will have developed a uterus and vagina canal by the end of this week.
